Flow

This isn’t the matrix (I don’t think…) - you’re not going to learn jiu-jitsu via download. Learning like this requires depth of skill, concentration, and involvement. With that recipe, anyone doing a body-mind activity, like playing an instrument, kneading bread or woodworking, might experience an intoxicating state of flow.

But you’ve got to engage.

You don’t switch off when you think about it. You switch off when you do it.

Flow experiences aren’t the same for everyone. For some it might mean just having a moment of intense feeling or concentration. Others might have a full-on life-altering peak experience. The effects of flow experiences might add up over time.

The idea here is thinking through movement: a body’s not a wall, it’s a threshold, an interface. Your Body and Brain both already know this – more than a third of the motor neurons from your brain to your body go to your hands and more than a third of the sensory neurons from your body are from your hand. This is sentient ecology, how we understand the world.

Learning by doing and becoming at the same time; that’s an authentic experience.
